Riff on sidewalking

Riff on Sidewalking
By: Shel Silverstein
Riff by: Joey King

They say if you step on a crack you’ll break your mothers back.
But that’s silly you see,
I mean think how many times you have stepped on a crack,
And did you mom’s back break,
I think not.

So I’m going to step on this crack,
on my way home from school.
But when I stepped through the threshold of my home,
I saw my mistake.

She walked toward me hunched over,
using her hand for support,
her face racked with pain and asked.
“How was your day?”

Joey, I'm shocked that you would do such a thing to your mother! Just joshing, but really, I have heard that ryhm so many times that it's not even funny. I think that people have used that rhyme for so long that they have jinxed it, and now nothing will happen when you step on a crack. ( ? ) ; )
